The Barcelona Music Lab Foundation was established in Barcelona in 2022 to explore the future of music and to research, understand, and develop its industry in the new digital society. Following this premise, the foundation has been working since its inception to drive the music industry forward and to help create an ecosystem of business innovation, with a focus on Barcelona and Catalonia as the epicenter of this industry.
Aligned with these objectives, the Barcelona Music Lab Foundation has just launched the second edition of its startup acceleration project, called the “Barcelona Music Lab Acceleration Program,” whose mission is to attract startups at different growth stages addressing key challenges in the music industry. According to Miquet Curanta, director of the foundation, “This program is key to identifying relevant projects and creating strategic connections with potential partners. Through high-value mentoring and specific support in key areas of project growth, we can work towards real continuity for the selected ideas.”
The foundation has created a three-month program aimed at selecting startups. A group of experts composed of industry professionals such as Jordi Herreruela, director of the Cruïlla Festival, Enric Jové CEO of McCann Barcelona, Genís Roca president of the PuntCat Foundation, or Josep Maria Martorell, deputy director of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center; will be responsible for evaluating and selecting the most innovative and leading projects.
Hand in hand with the experts and the business development teams of Barcelona Music Lab, the selected startups will be able to test and implement new solutions in a very short time, while exploring real commercialization opportunities thanks to the foundation’s strategic network. “Barcelona has a privileged environment for the development of the music industry. There is a significant and diverse number of festivals, a leading technological ecosystem in Europe, research centers, and innovation spaces, and, ultimately, everything necessary to become a European reference in this field,” adds Curanta.
The acceleration areas that the program aims to test are sustainability, accessibility, education, innovative experience, connection between people, event management, data, intellectual property, and industrial property. Key areas in both the music industry and the creative industry.
The program’s call for applications will be open from February 28th to March 28th and will end with an official exhibition on June 13th.
