Barcelona Music Lab launches Energy Challenge 2024

An opportunity to accelerate the energy transition in music festivals

Barcelona, October 2024. The Barcelona Music Lab Foundation announces the launch of the Energy Challenge 2024, an open innovation program aimed at finding technological solutions to drive the energy transition in music festivals across Catalonia.

Targeting startups from all over Europe, the Energy Challenge offers a unique platform to develop sustainable technologies, collaborate with major events, and accelerate their implementation in the music sector.

The program focuses on three major energy challenges: energy consumption monitoring and optimization, the integration of renewable energies, and raising awareness among participants, artists, and suppliers. The 8 selected startups will have the opportunity to test their solutions in collaboration with promoters and organizers of festivals and concerts like The Project, Ítaca Cultura i Acció en l’Empordà, and Cruïlla Festival, as well as partners such as Fira de Barcelona and B:SM (Barcelona de Serveis Municipals).

This is a key moment for the music industry, which must lead the way towards more sustainable practices. The Energy Challenge allows innovative startups to connect with high-impact events and develop solutions that will make a real difference in reducing energy consumption at festivals,” highlights Miquel Curanta, director of the Barcelona Music Lab Foundation.

Participating startups will benefit from mentorship, training, and the opportunity to network with experts in the music and sustainability industries. Additionally, they will have the chance to participate in a Pitch Day in February 2025, where they can present their proposals to a panel of professionals and compete to implement a pilot project at festivals in 2025.

The Energy Challenge 2024 is organized by the Barcelona Music Lab Foundation, with the support of the Institut de Cultura de Barcelona (ICUB) and in collaboration with Impact Hub Barcelona.

The program is backed by the scientific and industrial expertise of Eurecat and the ENIA Siemens Energy AI Chair. Energy Sustainability for a Decarbonized Society 5.0 to bring industrial knowledge to the implementation of solutions in an urban environment.

The call for applications will be open from October 17 to November 24. For more information and registration, visit:
