Get to know the selected projects of the Call for Projects 2024

The Barcelona Music Lab Foundation has successfully closed its call for funding for innovative projects in the music and audio sector. With a global budget of €120,000, this edition has selected five projects from over 35 applications, each with great potential to transform the future of the music industry through technology, sustainability, and the creation of new business models.

The selected projects stand out for their innovation and impact across various areas of music, from copyright protection to the use of artificial intelligence in music creation and mental health improvement. Below, we present the chosen projects and the reasons for their selection:

  1. KEIA / BMAT – €28,000
    This project proposes an advanced auditing system for detecting the use of copyrighted material in artificial intelligence engines applied to music creation. Its technological innovation and ability to provide effective solutions for copyright protection in an increasingly digitalized world were key factors in its selection. Its practical application can have a significant impact on the music industry, improving security and transparency.
  2. Essentia API – €21,800
    Essentia API is an audio analysis platform that uses AI to generate enriched metadata for music. Its ability to identify attributes such as genre, emotion, and instrumentation, along with the efficiency of its analytical models for managing large data volumes, makes it a powerful tool for streaming services and content creation. Its commercial trajectory and diverse applications for the music industry and multimedia content creation were key factors in its selection.
  3. Hambient – €26,500
    Hambient is a music ambiance platform for points of sale that integrates blockchain to ensure transparency in license management. With over 700 establishments currently using it, Hambient stands out for its technological innovation and its ability to adapt to the commercial needs of businesses of all types. Additionally, its promotion of local music and the creation of a positive impact on Barcelona’s soundscape were determining factors in its selection.
  4. La Cúpula Music – €25,700
    This project proposes an AI-based solution to identify modified versions of musical works and protect copyright. With its scalability and practical applications for fraud detection and improving music catalog management, La Cúpula Music’s system could be a key tool for the industry. Its collaboration with BMAT, a leader in music technology, was also an important factor in its selection.
  5. Musitopia – €18,000
    Musitopia is a platform that combines AI, music therapy, and neuroscience to offer personalized musical interventions aimed at improving mental health and emotional well-being. Its therapeutic approach and the use of advanced technologies to personalize musical experiences were key factors in its selection. With the support of academic and healthcare institutions, Musitopia has the potential to transform emotional well-being globally, establishing a new path for using music in mental health.

 

With these five projects, Barcelona Music Lab reaffirms its commitment to innovation and sustainability in the music sector. The selected projects represent creative and disruptive solutions that can redefine the future of music and audio, contributing to a more efficient and transparent digital music ecosystem.
