The Call

The Barcelona Music Lab fundation opens a call for full or partial funding of projects that contribute to the innovation and transformation of the music and audio sector. With an overall budget of 120.000€, we are looking for projects that bring new ideas and business models, focused on technology or sustainability, to transform the future of music.

Who can participate?

This call is aimed at individuals and legal entities with registered offices in Spain, who present innovative projects in the technological or non-technological field, with a significant impact on the music sector.

Key dates

The period for receiving proposals is from November 12 to November 26.

Evaluation criteria

The projects will be evaluated according to the degree of innovation, technical feasibility, sustainability and impact on the music industry and society.

Financing

Selected projects can receive up to 100% of the requested funding, depending on the budget and the quality of the proposal.

Technological modality

Projects that integrate new technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, augmented reality, blockchain, streaming platforms, among others, to improve the creation, distribution or musical experience.

Non-Technological modality

Projects that, without incorporating advanced technologies, are innovative in other areas such as sustainability, social inclusion or new business models within the music industry.

Projectes que integrin noves tecnologies com intel·ligència artificial, realitat augmentada, blockchain, plataformes de streaming, entre d’altres, per millorar la creació, distribució o experiència musical.

Modalitat No Tecnològica

Projectes que, sense incorporar tecnologies avançades, siguin innovadors en altres àrees com la sostenibilitat, la inclusió social o nous models de negoci dins de la indústria musical.

CLOSED CALL. Send your proposal to fundacio@bcnmusiclab.com with the subject “2024 competition proposal”. Clearly indicate the modality you opt for and attach the corresponding documentation.

Technological Modality

  1. General description of the project (Executive Summary, one page).
  2. Detailed explanation of the technologies used, with a development roadmap.
  3. General and specific objectives of the project, emphasizing technological innovation.
  4. Project schedule, including development phases, milestones, and estimated date of execution.
  5. Use cases or business cases that illustrate how technology can be applied in the future within the music sector.
  6. Key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate the success of the project.

Selected projects

KEIA / BMAT

KEIA aims to establish the principles for advanced content auditing techniques in AI-generated music. It addresses the lack of transparency of current systems by investigating the use of copyrighted material for the training of models and developing strategies to obtain and identify such content in the generated material. Ultimately, KEIA seeks to ensure the ethical and sustainable use of AI in music creation.

Essentia API

Essentia API is an innovative service for music and audio-related industries that allows the analysis and understanding of audio collections using state-of-the-art AI models. Our AI models categorize music by similarity, genre, rhythm, melody, emotion, and intention, providing detailed metadata with fast analysis time. Essentia API aims to foster the creation of innovative products in the music and audio sector.

Hambient

hambient, with an “h” from lahuella, is a digital music ambiance service specifically designed for businesses and small chains. It aims to maximize the benefits of an appropriate sound environment for both businesses and the music industry. hambient is based on the huephonic platform. At the heart of hambient lies a commitment to offering an easy-to-use and, above all, useful service for businesses.

La Cúpula Music

The aim of La Cúpula Music is to create a proof of concept for an AI-based system for the automatic and scalable identification of musical works through audio analysis and metadata. The solution will analyze versions of music based on the same composition or similar compositions. It will also provide editorial information through a phonogram-work link. Use cases include detecting copyright infringements, identifying unlicensed music distribution, recommending artistic collaborations, and simplifying music registration.

Musitopia

Musitopia is a pioneering digital health platform that uses advanced AI and deep learning to deliver personalized music interventions aimed at enhancing mental health. Its technologies can analyze and interpret music emotions and human emotional responses to music. By integrating neuroscience, music therapy, and AI, Musitopia creates musical experiences that address individual emotional states and foster positive mental health outcomes.
