Seven startups selected for Barcelona Music Lab’s Acceleration Program

  • Keeo, Kultur, New Electronic Assistant, Pro Indie, Skidattl, Unchained Music, and Xtended Reality Music Hub were the startups chosen for this business acceleration program that aims to make an impact on the music industry.
  • Barcelona Music Lab has summoned 43 applicants, including startups specializing in areas such as signage, ticketing and virtual reality.
  • The Barcelona Music Lab Acceleration Program, promoted in collaboration with Plug and Play, Tech Barcelona and Sónar+D, will last 3 months and will have mentors as well as top-level professionals.

The Barcelona Music Lab Foundation has already selected the seven startups that will take part in the second edition of the “Barcelona Music Lab Acceleration Program”, which will culminate on the 14th of June.

The initiative, which places Barcelona and Catalonia at the heart of the music industry, has been promoted by the organization with the support of Plug and Play, Tech Barcelona and Sónar+D, and its mission is to attract startups at different stages of growth that address key challenges in the sector.

In line with this idea, on March 28, the Foundation concluded the registration phase in which it was able to count on 43 startups working in fields as diverse as distribution, ticketing, signage and virtual reality. Among these, the organization had shortlisted 15 finalists.

Now, Barcelona Music Lab’s Acceleration Program has announced the seven selected startups from Spain and abroad (Italy, Mexico, and the USA) that will be able to participate in this project over the next few months and receive mentoring from leading professionals such as Jordi Herreruela, director of the Cruïlla festival; Enric Jové, CEO of McCann Barcelona; Genís Roca, president of the PuntCat Foundation; and Josep Maria Martorell, deputy director of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center. “Our final selection responds to a clear idea: we were looking for value proposals that address real problems in our sector and that differ from the usual solutions. Different yet realistic initiatives with a scalable business model,” explains Miquel Curanta, director of Barcelona Music Lab.

  • Keeo – A pay-per-play model for users to listen to music (Trento, Italia).
  • Kultur – The last-minute ticketing app for cultural events with exclusive discounts, created with the aim of filling empty seats at cultural events and making culture more accessible (Madrid, Spain).
  • New Electronic Assistant – A composition assistant for multi-level musicians and producers (Barcelona, Spain).
  • Pro Indie – A technology consulting agency specializing in the music industry (Ciudad de Mexico, Mexico).
  • Skidattl – A company offering virtual signage in the real world through augmented reality (Milpitas – California, USA).
  • Unchained Music – The music distribution platform that covers the entire distribution process and protects artist rights (Denver, USA).
  • Xtended Reality Music Hub – Curator, producer, and distributor of great immersive and virtual reality experiences for wide audiences (Barcelona, Spain).

Thus, with the support of the Barcelona Music Lab think tank and business teams, from next week, these startups will be able to begin working on new solutions and marketing opportunities under the umbrella of the Foundation’s strategic network. All of this in a program that tests different key acceleration areas in the music and creative industry such as accessibility, education, innovative experience, connection between people, event management, data, and intellectual and industrial property.
